I realize I've not been around much on my blog; it's been a hard year. I might tell you more about this in a wrap-up post as we go into December.
For now, I'm back to announce something a bit... happier. I've dediced to open applications for another mentee position as a Christmas gift to someone.
DEADLINE: 24TH DECEMBER 12PM GMT -- ANNOUNCEMENT ON CHRISTMAS EVE (GMT!)
What I Offer
I’m offering to read your complete manuscript and give feedback, followed by (if you want) up to an hour of email support or Skype support. I've done this twice before now, and it often turns into hour-long DM conversations on Twitter instead, which is fine! Aside from my help with your MS, you also get to ask me whatever writing/publishing questions you have, and I'll do my best to answer them. Please don't be afraid to ask questions; I don't bite! :)
What I’m Looking For
Your manuscript needs to be finished. If it’s still a little rough, that’s okay. While I can’t provide line edits, I can tell you if your plot, characters, setting and pacing are working, and we can take it from there.
While not required, I advise to hold off on querying/pitching for the duration of your mentee position, so we can turn your MS into the best version it can be. If this requires several rounds of edits, I'm more than happy to help you with this!
Age ranges: MG, YA, NA, Adult
Genres: all fiction genres--no erotica.
If you're doubting whether your MS could be a good fit, please send me a tweet! I'd hate for anyone to miss out.
How To Apply
Send me an email at writershannahughes at gmail dot com by 24th December 2017 12PM GMT. I will announce the winner on Christmas eve.
As a guideline for your email, think of a query. I'd like to know more about your MS, (don't forget age range, genre & word count!), why you wrote it, a little bit about yourself , and if you want (optional!) why you think we'd be a good fit. :)
Please also include (pasted in the email) your first three chapters, and a synopsis if you have it (don't fret if you don't!)
I am an agented YA writer, represented by Kelly Peterson of Corvisiero Literary Agency for my YA contemporary UNDER THE DARK CLOUDS, which is currently on submission, and RESIST, a YA futuristic sci-fi that will go on submission in 2018. In the past, I worked freelance as a publisher’s assistant with Glass House Press, where I read manuscripts and offered advice for acquisition and developmental edits.
Note: if you entered in previous opportunities, you're welcome to submit again if you've gone through revisions, or with a new MS.
